Why Busy Moms Struggle with Losing Weight
When it comes to sustainable weight loss, there are a few big barriers I see over and over again in the lives of my clients (many of whom are busy moms and most of whom are caretaking women with a laundry list of responsibilities).
The first, is mental load
As a mom, you’re already making hundreds of decisions a day (sometimes before lunch).
So when a diet asks you to track everything, measure everything, and think about food all day,
it’s simply… too much.
The solution is to reduce the number of decisions you need to make each day.
Instead of overthinking every meal, you can put a few favorites on rotation, or fall back on a balanced plate template:
protein + carb + fat + fiber
It doesn’t have to be perfect - it has to be repeatable.
The second barrier, is all-or-nothing thinking
the “if I can’t do it perfectly, why bother?” mindset that often shows up as:
starting over constantly
feeling like one off-plan meal ruins everything
waiting for the “right time” to be consistent
The solution is to shift your expectation from, “I’m going to do this perfectly” to “I’m going to do this more consistently” .
Because the women who make sustainble progress aren’t the ones doing everything right,
they’re the ones executing the basics when they can, and committing to the next best thing when they can’t.
The third common barrier is inconsistent schedules
Because no matter how hard you try, as a busy mom, your days rarely look the same.
Some days you have time - some days you don’t.
Some days go according to plan - some days couldn’t be further from it.
So naturally, any plan that requires a perfectly structured routine is going to fall apart.
The solution is to plan for your hard days, not your best days.
Have “go-to” meals you rotate.
Have quick backup options available.
Give yourself credit for “good enough”.
In my experience, as a working mom of two and Nutrition Coach of 12+ years, busy moms don’t need to do more.
They need to focus on what actually matters -
the things that give you the most return for the least amount of time and energy.
If you’re a busy mom who feels like you’ve tried everything…
but nothing has stuck…
I encourage you to consider the possibility that instead of trying harder,
you need to try something that works when:
your schedule is full
your energy is low
and things don’t go perfectly
Because that’s real life.
And that’s where sustainable results are built.
If you’re looking for support with that, that’s exactly what I help my clients do inside my 1:1 coaching.
